4B40.1 Radiation of Heat

[Setup Time: 25 Min.] [Current Condition: Good]

Info

A light source is placed at the focus of a large, parabolic mirror. A radiometer placed at the focus of a second mirror will spin when illuminated.

Setup Instructions

1. Place one parabolic mirror at each end of the front bench. (Make sure the mirror surface is oriented perpendicular to the bench.)

2. Place a stack of blocks on the bench to hold the candle such that the flame of the candle will sit at the focal point of the mirror (see back of mirror for focal length).

3. Place a stack of blocks in front of the other mirror such that the top of the radiometer will sit at the focal point.
